Merrell’s hiking boots combined the lightweight performance of a running shoe with the rugged, trail-ready capabilities of a hiking boot. Within three years, Merrell hiking boots were proclaimed “the best in the world” by Backpacker Magazine. Today, Merrell boots, running shoes, sandals and sneakers are so ... Wow, I love these shoes! I haven't hiked in them yet, but so far the toe box is roomy and they are comfortable. I got at least 40-50 compliments at work and online. I told them if I die at half dome, I want to die in style. These are the trendiest hiking shoes I have ever seen. Thank you for not being brown and ugly!!!

These minimalist type shoes have really helped reduce soreness in my knees caused from running. The shoes have a harder rubber compound on the sole than the Trail Glove (I wore through the sole of my trail glove running on mostly asphalt/concrete in a matter of months). These also are full of mesh, so they are cooler than the Trail Gloves but also any amount of water on the road will result in wet feet.

Size wise the shoes are on the large size. I usually wear a 10 1/2 wide. I ordered a 10 worrying they would be too small. They are very large and more than big enough. They have a wide toe box, great for someone with wide feet but not so much if you have medium width or narrow feet. Like many Merrell shoes, the top of the heel fits very snugly and is not as well padded there as other brands. Looking at the picture I thought the shoes would be made of a mesh that breathes, rather like the New Balance Minimus which I love. They are not. I immediately wore them on a four mile walk. While comfortable, they made my feet very hot. I don't think the fabric breathes very well. I will keep them for cooler weather.
